@charlesclements43504 years ago Pay special note from to , "Burns massive amounts of calories." IF YOU ARE TYPE 2 DIABETIC This can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar. Make sure that you consume some carbohydrates before you swim. If your blood sugar should drop, you may experience leg cramps. If this happens then you will have to revert to a slow breast stroke. The breast stroke kick will help keep your calf muscles stretched out so they will not cramp. ... 13

@JDGage4 years ago Dude, I've tried Taekwondo, boxing, weightlifting, running, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Crossfit, and YoGa. But honestly, there's just something about swimming that always is unique to any other activity. One it is not bad on your body. Two, it makes me feel better throughout the day. Three hardly anyone uses the pool at the gyms so you have it to yourself.
I put on waterproof bone conduction headphones, goggles, and go at it. You get into your own little world and you feel it working every part of your body.

@marcin79924 years ago That's true, I have encountered some comments that swimming is not so good as body lifting but You know what? That is simply not totally true! I know how I feel after one hour at swimming pool = feel light, skinny, empowered and very, very focused and "relaxed".
And believe me, I have gone through many different exercises, and have never felt so relaxed as in the water.
That is the biggest advantage of swimming: relax, self confidence, boost in mood.

@tonyjagger40392 years ago I was a decent club swimmer in my youth 60 secs for 100 Yds., Then you work hard getting your home together and no spare time. Then retirement. I am very lucky with the use of a pool. apart from bank holidays I swim 2 kms 80 laps 25 mtr pool 3 times a week, year round in 48/49 mins, I am getting better. but the thing is I am nearly 83 and have an excellent body shape. Nothing wrong with me, eat what I want and still chase the ladies. I put that down to swimming. Thankyou very much for your instructions. ... 4
  • @
@PapaCowboySr3 years ago I started swimming again about 2 months ago. I grew up swimming and also swam Masters . I am just a moderate swimmer, but have always felt at ease in the water . Be it the ocean or pool. Prefer the ocean though.
I am 67 and don’t want to pound my body with running.
I do immerse myself in a world of calm, especially when I can hang out on the bottom as long as possible. It’s a great sport and without a doubt recommend it to anybody wanting to get their mind and body in shape

@Nekotrekk3 years ago I've always loved swimming as a kid but hated exercise in general. I tried out running and different home workout videos as an adult to improve my health and cardio but it never stuck with me. Never looked forward to it and whenever I did it I never had fun.
I bought my very first one year swim card at my public swimming pool last week and it has been great so far. Heck, I even look forward to my exercise sessions which is something I never did before. Feels great and I really hope it does my heart/lungs and body good too. Not really doing it for any physical changes.

@ksmith28522 years ago I love that all ages and fitness levels can enjoy it. I swim at a large lap pool in California. Today, the young guy next to me was blind; I only knew that when he finishes and his caregiver brought him his white red tipped cane. There is a woman in her 90s who brings her yellow noodle and uses it to move thru the water kicking. There are always 4 or 5 elite swimmers trying to improve speed and technique. There are fat people and fit people; in the water you just see heads, arms reaching and splashes from kicks. Overall, I think swimming is one of the most inclusive non judgmental sports..and just a fun way to spend an hour while getting all the emotional and physical benefits you mentioned. ... 2

@barryjohnson52884 years ago You can go to the animal kingdom, and see similar animals that swim a lot vs animals that don't swim for example look at Tigers. Tigers are leaner faster, and more muscular than lions that don't like swimming. Another great example is a polar bear, you can look at a polar bear, and tell it's a leaner more muscular animal than a grizzly, because polar bears swim more often. ... 5
