Strengthening community resilience to climate fragility risk

Climate change exacerbates socioeconomic and environmental risks that amplify unrest and can even result in sociocultural disharmony. Major concerns aggravated by climate change include loss of lives, impacts on food, water supply and livelihoods, increased competition over natural resources, increased frequencies and degree of climate related disasters, migration and displacement. The Climate Change and Fragility Project (CCFP) focuses on developing tools to strengthen actions at local level while bringing the proven theory on climate change and fragility risks into practice. The two-and-a-half-year project (January 2019- July 2021) is funded by the European Union through United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The overall goal of the project is to strengthen resilience to climate change fragility risks at community level in Bardiya District of Province 5 and Kailali District of Karnali provinence. The specific objective of the project is to strengthen resilience of 17 selected communities in the project areas against climate change fragility risks. This video highlights the overall work of the project and how it collaborated with Nepal Flood Resilience Project, local government and community people in achieving its goal to strengthen resilience to climate change fragility risk and overcome the climate induced disasters.
