@CandyQueenGoal500Subs9 months agograss is a type of plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. Their appearance as a common plant was in the mid-Cretaceous period. There are 12,000 species now.[3] A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in places such as lawns and parks. Grass is usually the color green. That is because they are wind-pollinated rather than insect-pollinated, so they do not have to attract insects. Green is the best colour for photosynthesis. Grasslands such as savannah and prairie where grasses are dominant cover 40.5% of the land area of the Earth, except Greenland and Antarctica.[4] Grasses are monocotyledon herbaceous plants. They include the "grass" of the family Poaceae, which are called grass by ordinary people. This family is also called the Gramineae, and includes some of the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae).[5] These three families are not very closely related, though all of them belong to clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a similar life-style. With around 780 genera and around 12,000 species,[3] the Poaceae is the fifth-largest plant family, after the Asteraceae, Orchidaceae, Fabaceae and Rubiaceae.[6] The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatching thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others. Many grasses are short, but some grasses can grow tall, such as bamboo. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places and make grasslands, including areas which are very arid or cold. There are several other plants that look similar to grass and are referred to as such, but are not members of the grass family. These plants include rushes, reeds, papyrus and water chestnut. Seagrass is a monocot in the order Alismatales. Grasses are an important food for many animals, such as deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows.[7] This is a part of why the plants are successful. Without grass, soil may wash away into rivers (erosion). Evolution of grass Grasses include some of the most versatile plant life-forms. They became widespread toward the end of the Cretaceous. Fossilized dinosaur dung (coprolites) have been found containing grass phytoliths (silica stones inside grass leaves).[8] Grasses have adapted to conditions in lush rain forests, dry deserts, cold mountains and even intertidal habitats, and are now the most widespread plant type. Grass is a valuable source of food and energy for many animals.[9] Grass and people Lawn grass is often planted on sports fields and in the area around a building. Sometimes chemicals and water is used to help lawns to grow. People have used grasses for a long time. People eat parts of grasses. Corn, wheat, barley, oats, rice and millet are cereals, common grains whose seeds are used for food and to make alcohol such as beer. Sugar comes from sugar cane, which is also a plant in the grass family. People have grown grasses as food for farm animals for about 4,000 years. People use bamboo to build houses, fences, furniture and other things. Grass plants can also be used as fuel, to cover roofs, and to weave baskets. Language In English, the word "grass" appears in several phrases. For example: "The grass is always greener on the other side" means "people are never happy with what they have and want something else" "Don't let the grass grow under your feet" means "Do something" "A snake in the grass" is about a person that will not be honest and will trick others. All flesh is grass: Old Testament book of Isaiah, chapter 40, verses 68. A very true observation of the present-day ecology. See the Miocene for the ecological relevance. Grass is a slang term for cannabis (pot, weed, or marijuana). References Yan Wu; Hai-Lu You; Xiao-Qiang Li (2018). @Wolfgen_dragons10 months agoGrass is a type of plant that belongs to the family poaceae. It is characterized by its long, narrow leaves and stems that are usually hollow and jointed. grass is an herbaceous plant, meaning it does not have a woody stem. It typically grows low to the ground, forming dense tufts or mats. The leaves of grass are arranged in two ranks opposite each other and often have a prominent midrib. They may be smooth or have rough edges, depending on the species. grass plays a crucial role in ecosystems, serving as a primary food source for many grazing animals, such as cows, sheep, and deer. It also provides habitat and protection for various insects and small animals. In addition, grass helps prevent soil erosion, filters water, and contributes to the overall health of the environment. lawns and grassy landscapes are common features in urban and suburban areas, where they are primarily used for aesthetic purposes and recreational activities. Grass can be cultivated and maintained through regular mowing, watering, and nutrient application to create a lush and healthy lawn. it' s important to note that there are different types of grass, including cool-season grasses like kentucky bluegrass and warm-season grasses like bermuda grass, each with its ownand adaptations to different climates and growing conditions. ...Expand5

For arid climate, see desert climate. For the act of abandoning or withdrawing support, see desertion. For other uses, see desert a desert is a barren area of landscape where little precipitation occurs and, consequently, living conditions are hostile for plant and animal life. The lack of vegetation exposes the unprotected surface of the ground to denudation. About one-third of the land surface of the earth is arid or semi-arid. This includes much of the polar regions, where little precipitation occurs, and which are sometimes called polar deserts or " cold deserts" deserts can be classified by the amount of precipitation that falls, by the temperature that prevails, by the causes ofor by their geographical location. 1] sand and dunes of the libyan desert view of high desert through a mountain crevasse valle de la luna (quot; moon valley" in the atacama desert of chile, the world' s driest non-polar desert deserts are formed by weathering processes as large variations in temperature between day and night put strains on the rocks, which consequently break in pieces. Although rain seldom occurs in deserts, there are occasional downpours that can result in flash floods. Rain falling on hot rocks can cause them to shatter, and the resulting fragments and rubble strewn over the desert floor are further eroded by the wind. This picks up particles of sand and dust, which can remain airborne for extended periods sometimes causing the formation of sand storms or dust storms. Wind-blown sand grains striking any solid object in their path can abrade the surface. Rocks are smoothed down, and the wind sorts sand into uniform deposits. The grains end up as level sheets of sand or are piled high in billowing sand dunes. Other deserts are flat, stony plains where all the fine material has been blown away and the surface consists of a mosaic of smooth stones, often forming desert pavements, and little further erosion takes place. Other desert features include rock outcrops, exposed bedrock and clays once deposited by flowing water. Temporary lakes may form and salt pans may be left when waters evaporate. There may be underground sources of water, in the form of springs and seepages from aquifers. Where these are found, oases can occur. plants and animals living in the desert need special adaptations to survive in the harsh environment. Plants tend to be tough and wiry with small or no leaves, cuticles, and often spines to deter herbivory. Some annual plants germinate, bloom and die in the course of a few weeks after rainfall, while other long-lived plants survive for years and have deep root systems able to tap underground moisture. Animals need to keep cool and find enough food and water to survive. Many are nocturnal, and stay in the shade or underground during the heat of the day. They tend to be efficient at conserving water, extracting most of their needs from their food and concentrating their urine. Some animals remain in a state of dormancy for long periods, ready to become active again during the rare rainfall. They then reproduce rapidly while conditions are favorable before returning to dormancy. people have struggled to live in deserts and the surrounding semi-arid lands for millennia. Nomads have moved their flocks and herds to wherever grazing is available, and oases have provided opportunities for a more settled way of life. The cultivation of semi-arid regions encourages erosion of soil and is one of the causes of increaseddesert farming is possible with the aid of irrigation, and the imperial valley in california provides an example of how previously barren land can be made productive by the import of water from an outside source. Many trade routes have been forged across deserts, especially across the sahara, and traditionally were used by caravans of camels carrying salt, gold, ivory and other goods. Large numbers of slaves were also taken northwards across the sahara. Some mineral extraction also takes place in deserts, and the uninterrupted sunlight gives potential for the capture of large quantities of solar energy. ...Expand

A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in places such as lawns and parks. Grass is usually the color green. That is because they are wind-pollinated rather than insect-pollinated, so they do not have to attract insects. Green is the best colour for photosynthesis.

Evolution of grass
Grasses include some of the most versatile plant life-forms. Grass is a valuable source of food and energy for many animals.[9]
Grass and people
Lawn grass is often planted on sports fields and in the area around a building.
Language
In English, the word "grass" appears in several phrases. For example:
"The grass is always greener on the other side" means "people are never happy with what they have and want something else"
"Don't let the grass grow under your feet" means "Do something"
"A snake in the grass" is about a person that will not be honest and will trick others.
All flesh is grass: Old Testament book of Isaiah, chapter 40, verses 68. A very true observation of the present-day ecology. See the Miocene for the ecological relevance.
Grass is a slang term for cannabis (pot, weed, or marijuana).

grass plays a crucial role in ecosystems, serving as a primary food source for many grazing animals, such as cows, sheep, and deer.
Grass can be cultivated and maintained through regular mowing, watering, and nutrient application to create a lush and healthy lawn.
it' s important to note that there are different types of grass, including cool-season grasses like kentucky bluegrass and warm-season grasses like bermuda grass, each with its ownand adaptations to different climates and growing conditions. ...Expand 5

the atmosphere of earth is the layer of gases, known collectively as air, retained by earth' s gravity that surrounds the planet and forms its planetary atmosphere. The atmosphere of earth creates pressure, absorbs most meteoroids and ultraviolet solar radiation, warms the surface through heat retention (greenhouse effect) allowing life and liquid water to exist on the earth' s surface, and reduces temperature extremes between day and night (the diurnal temperature variation)

By number of molecules) dry air contains 78. 08% nitrogen, 20. 95% oxygen, 0. 93% argon, 0. 04% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. 8] air also contains a variable amount of water vapor, on average around 1% at sea level, and 0. 4% over the entire atmosphere. Air composition, temperature, and atmospheric pressure vary with altitude. Within the atmosphere, air suitable for use in photosynthesis by terrestrial plants and breathing of terrestrial animals is found only in earth' sneeded]
earth' s early atmosphere consisted of gases in the solar nebula, primarily hydrogen. The atmosphere changed significantly over time, affected by many factors such as volcanism, life, and weathering. not to be confused with dessert.
this article is about dry terrain. For arid climate, see desert climate. For the act of abandoning or withdrawing support, see desertion. For other uses, see desert
a desert is a barren area of landscape where little precipitation occurs and, consequently, living conditions are hostile for plant and animal life. 1]

deserts are formed by weathering processes as large variations in temperature between day and night put strains on the rocks, which consequently break in pieces.
Some mineral extraction also takes place in deserts, and the uninterrupted sunlight gives potential for the capture of large quantities of solar energy. ...Expand
