Aly discusses the bees in our museum’s lobby for World Honey Bee Day (August 19)

August 19th is World Honey Bee Day! This day reminds us of the value of bees, especially as pollinators. Considering Sacramento’s longest running newspaper is the Sacramento Bee, we couldn’t pass this day up. For today, Aly discussed the bees in the lobby of the Sacramento History Museum. The 3 bees in the mosaic are from the entryway of the former Sacramento Bee building that housed the newspaper office from 1901 to 1952. The building was demolished but Eleanor McClatchy, then president of the McClatchy Corporation, had the mosaic saved along with the facade to the entry of the building. The 3 bees represent The Sacramento Bee, The Fresno Bee, and The Modesto Bee.
