Thank you all for watching this class on Z flashing for stucco. Stucco weep or drip screeds code requirements and cosmetic reasons. In this how-to stucco video, I’m going over a code requirement for protecting mud sills for code and cosmetic reasons.  Is it necessary? Yes, and it’s a permanent solution to protect the wood mud-sill of your home.😉     Is it a boring video? You betcha. Unless you’re the homeowner and don’t want the mud sill or mud plate to rot out on you in less than 10 years.  This can last up to 5 years or perhaps ten or even longer if quality paints are used to prevent rainwater intrusion.   However, when the sun hits these areas and brings with it a season of, say, 80 to 100 degrees, the wood naturally can swell, pushing the stucco outward and creating a crack as the paper is not a stable barrier for the horizontal surface, this can be the beginning of wood rot and water penetrating issues that can’t be noticed as they usually below the floor level.    I’ve seen worse-case scenarios where the entire mud sill rotted for similar reasons. And had to be opened and wood with stucco replaced. Surely you don’t want to keep me employed.    Can you bust the stucco of the foundation so that a drip or weep and be used? Sometimes, I have had my share of trying to remove stucco welded on or what we call an excellent mechanical bond to a freshly poured foundation.   Stucco metal weep/drip screeds were not invented, thus, coded or required until 1980.   Another excellent code for a couple of years; required stucco stud walls to have plywood nailed on.  Man, we loved that code as we used to stretch the wire lath and nail it to just the studs, where we would lose much stucco between the stud bays.  More stucco weep or drip screed videos are below. /watch//81-i83Kc_BCc- Install Stucco Weep or Drip screeds. /watch//cPTP-OlENKTET Stucco drip and or weep screeds countering Z flashings. /watch/retnuoC/QNGWhu30cHw0n flashing drip or weep stucco screed. /watch/llatsnI/QOyD5pngGXOgt Galvanized Stucco weeps or drip screed over copper. /watch/llatsnI/oNjVNjxtatBtt Stucco weeps or drip screeds below grade. https://www.StuccoPlastering.com/ My website. https://www.GiordanoPlastering.com/ Jason’s Website.
