After thirty years of near-misses, Jack Thompson lost his home to a massive lava flow from Kilauea Volcano's Pu`u O`o Crater on March 2nd, 2012. In this video we watch Jack visit the place his house and gardens stood just eight days earlier. His was the last home still occupied at the subdivision that at one time contained 1500 lots; all others were destroyed by periodic lava flows into the area in earlier years. Jack continued living in the home for decades after all road access was cut off by lava; he hiked nearly four miles across raw and rough lavascapes to bring in supplies. Read a complete account of his story, including when lava approached his home, by going to Hawaiian Lava Daily: www.hawaiianlavadaily.blogspot.com
