Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis gave a triumphant speech at the Tampa Convention Center on Tuesday night, basking in his 19-point victory over Democrat Charlie Crist. “We faced the tasks, we took the hits, we weathered the storms, and we stood our ground. We did not back down. We had the conviction to guide us, and we had the courage to lead,” DeSantis said to loud cheers. “We made promises to the people of Florida, and we have delivered on those promises. After four years the people have delivered their verdict. Freedom is here to stay!” DeSantis said that in his victory, he had “rewritten the political map” in Florida, as he took traditional Democratic counties such as Miami-Dade and Palm Beach. In Miami-Dade, the numbers were 55 percent for DeSantis compared to 44 percent for Charlie Crist. And in Palm Beach, the figures were 51 percent for DeSantis compared to 48 percent for Crist, based on data from the supervisors of elections offices. The governor also boasted that under his leadership, the state had embraced freedom and rejected “woke ideology.” He said: “We fight ‘the woke’ in the Legislature. We fight ‘the woke’ in the schools. We fight ‘the woke’ in the corporation, and we will never ever surrender to the woke mob – Florida is where woke goes to die!” #florida #DeSantis #speech
