Lesson on phenylketonuria. Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an inherited disorder of phenylalanine metabolism, resulting in insufficient enzymatic processing of phenylalanine. As a result, phenylalanine levels increase, leading to increased production of metabolites that cause damage to developing brains that cause developmental delay.
