Slope Overload Distortion and Granular Noise/Quantization Noise (Error) in Delta Modulation (DM)

This video is about slope overload distortion and granular noise (Idle Noise). These are two kinds of quantization errors or noises that are present in the Delta modulation (DM). Adaptive Delta modulation is used to overcome these quantization errors of delta modulation. VIDEO LINK- DELTA MODULATION (DM) /watch/0sTgrPT_OFf_g When there are large dynamic variations in the input signal, then the slope overload distortion takes place in Delta modulation, but when the input signal is nearly constant or less variations in amplitude are present, then another kind of quantization error takes place known as granular noise. Slope overload distortion can be removed by increasing by step size while the granular noise can be overcome by reducing the step size. These quantization errors are observed in Delta modulation because of the fixed step size. Therefore the adaptive Delta modulation overcomes these quantization errors by adapting or changing the step size according to the variations in the input signal.
